Oakland International is a multi temperature supply chain industry sector specialist focusing on frozen, chilled and ambient storage, ready for picking, packing and distribution.
In 2008 we celebrated 10 years of continuous growth. During this period we have made it our primary aim to balance development with sustainability by reducing the energy output of our operations.
Utilising a wind turbine to generate our electricity requirements will have a profound effect upon our carbon footprint and bring us closer to achieving our goal to become one of the first carbon neutral Redditch businesses.
Some of the energy saving initiatives we have undertaken to date include:
Carbon neutrality
- we aim to become one of the first companies in Redditch to become carbon neutral
- we have achieved an 86% saving in road miles for our smaller suppliers through pallet sharing
On-site sewage treatment plant
- this is backed by a secondary treatment using reed beds
- it uses substantially less energy than conventional sewage treatment methods
- it requires little maintenance
- the reed bed creates an important wildlife habitat and a product that can be used for thatching
- the system is capable of handling waste from 400 people
- it achieves treatment standards far in excess of those laid down by the Environment Agency
Recycling
- all plastic, cardboard and wood is recycled
- we work with charities distributing short coded food products
- our recycling initiatives have reduced by half the amount of skips sent to landfill
